When the person exposed to cold environment, the temperature of the body differs and due to this chills occurs to the person. Usually, the term is referred to the shivering of the person and of course, there are other reasons also. Although the cold temperature is considered as the main reason for this, different types of health problems are also considered as reasons for this unusual state of the person. Immediate attention is absolutely necessary to bring the body of the person to the normal condition, since it is very dangerous to prolong the same condition for a longer duration.

Symptoms

Chills may happen to the body at the start of the infection and normally followed by the fever. Rapid muscle contraction is the cause for the shivering and this is the process of generating heat, when the body feels that it really needs heat, especially, when the body is cold. In some cases, this is the pilot for the fever and care should be taken by the person to avoid further complications to health. If a person is suffering from malaria, he would be suffering from the shaking of his body and at times, it would be very serious. The person should not be wrapped with woolen blanket, since it would not help to reduce the temperature and in fact, it would trigger in increasing temperature. The person should be taken to the hospital for urgent medical procedures.

For adults, the increase in the temperature would be gradual and it would be comparatively easy to reduce the temperature. Chills are the significant symptom for the malaria fever and shaking of the body would be heavy. Even infants would have this problem, which should be attended to at once. Even ten minutes delay might cause problems to them, since they cannot withstand the shaking. At the same time, if the parents are aware of the cause for this, they should provide medical treatment that is required for them.

Infections May Cause Chills

Viral and bacterial infection is one of the causes for chills and there are other reasons also. Bacterial gastroenteritis, severe cold, infectious mononucleosis, influenza, meningitis, pneumonia, strep throat, urinary tract infection are some of the reasons for this health disorder. For some of the reasons, home care should be sufficient. When the temperature is only 102 degree F, lots of fluids should be taken by the person and absolute rest is required to control the fever with shivering.

The above reasons are very common for the chills and there might be other reasons also. Diagnosing the reason is highly essential and the physicians would check almost all parts of the body of the person to find out the exact reason for this shaking. Case history and complete details are required for the physician to start administrating the medical procedures to the suffering person.
