Common Causes Of Cellulitis Infection

cellulitis causes overview

What Are The Symptoms And Causes Of Cellulitis?

What are the main causes of cellulitis? Well, first of all let us start by knowing what that disease is. It is a bacterial kind of infection that affects the dermis and subcutaneous tissues found just below the skin.

Usually the presence of bacteria on our skin is very normal; however, the problem comes when they find their way deep into the skin. There are many ways through which the bacteria can get in, like when you get a cut, bites or bruises and the skin is broken.

For this reason, people with certain medical conditions can be at higher risk of contracting this medical condition than normal people.

What Are The Causes Of Cellulitis?

The most common groups of bacteria that get in and cause this infection are the streptococci and staphylococci. In general occasions, they are found on the skin, but they are not harmful in this place as compared to the deeper parts. When you break the skin, they will use this as their means to get deeper.

Any harm done to the skin that ends up destroying it will be used as a route, even burns and skin conditions like eczema or even athlete’s foot.

In some rare cases, the bacteria can get in through blood or even worse the lymphatic system.

Some people are at a greater risk of catching this infection because of their conditions. Like Obese people because their legs swell and increase the chances of having the bacteria go in.

Someone with a weak immune system may not be able to resist the infection. Such people may be suffering from HIV/AIDS or even cancer patients who undergo chemotherapy.

As we age our immune systems weaken and this could also contribute towards the causes of cellulitis.

People suffering from blood circulatory problems will also have high incidences of the bacterial infection mainly because the supply is low and hence cannot fight the bacteria. Chickenpox and shingles are conditions that will eventually lead to breakage of skin as the swollen parts will break and expose skin all over.

Cellulitis can also be contracted through injections as the needle will have to fracture the skin so that it gives way. A densely populated place also increases the chances that someone will catch the infection.

How Can You Know If It Is Cellulitis You Are Suffering From?

This infection has different symptoms which may show on any part of the body. First of all, the region that has been infected will become warm and tender.

As it continues you may start realizing that it is also swollen, red and painful to touch. In some cases, you may develop blisters which may also be painful.

As for the treatment, it will react well towards antibiotics like any other bacterial infection. Oral antibiotics are used to treat mild cases, however more adverse methods are used by for the ones with infection in the blood stream and lymph system.

Now that you know the causes of cellulitis, there are more things you can do to improve your situation.

Take more glasses of water daily, and let the swollen parts remain elevated so that the swelling subsides. You can always take painkillers if the pain is too much for you to handle.
